CALANAIS TILES

The Calanais Standing Stones (aka Callanish Stones) on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, were erected over 5000 years ago by people we know little about. Though no one can say with certainty the purpose of the stones and their arrangement, there is no denying the power felt when in their presence. Each stone carries the energy and ancient spirit of the collective with the added unique essence of it’s own origin and history.

The imprint of the stones and their complicated history stays with you long after you’ve left the Isle of Lewis, departed Scotland, and returned to your home village.

The ‘tiles’ in the Calanais Tiles series is my expression of the myriad of impressions that have remained with me – visual – mystical, intellectual, mathematical, and colorful – from the myriad of grays to the color of their energy when viewed through a different lens. Every tile is a section of one of three of the Calanais stones.
